History: The Teddy Bear story begins, of all places, on a bear hunt in Mississippi. The story goes that President Teddy Roosevelt, an avid outdoorsman, came upon an injured bear, but refused to hunt it because its injuries made it unsporting. The story became a national phenomenon, and cartoons of Teddy and his bear sprang up all over the country. Stuffed bears soon followed, and of course they were known as Teddy’s Bears.
